Future Submarines


We were engaged by Naval Group (previously known as DCNS) to deliver their bid to the Australian Government’s Competitive Evaluation Process to select an International Program partner for the SEA1000 Future Submarine Program. We developed the stealthy black-on-black ‘sub'mission in collaboration with Nation Canberra, and DCNS were selected as the preferred partner.

Swell turns 20


July 1997 — Puff Daddy atop the charts, double-denim cool, InDesign but a sparkle in Adobe’s eye, Tyson bites Holyfield and Swell opens for business. Two decades on and Swell turns twenty! TWENTY!! It’s been a wild but satisfying ride and we’d like to thank all of our clients, staff and suppliers for the amazing support over the years. We’re incredibly proud and grateful and look forward to many more years to come.

In a nutshell, the role requires: 5+ years of experience in delivering websites, applications and web apps across all devices / Preference for full stack developer with solid experience in delivering mid-large websites / create or contribute to web applications with clean, portable, well-documented code / PHP programming specialised in Wordpress plugins / Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript and Bootstrap or equivalent framework / Solid knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign / Wire framing and prototyping knowledge / Ability to work within and extend existing codebases.

12 Speeches


We recently designed this beautiful publication featuring a tactile blind embossed cover. It showcases 12 high profile keynote speeches hosted by IPAA in 2016.



Artstate is an arts festival to be held in Lismore this year followed by the Central West (2018), Southern NSW (2019) and Riverina (2020). Swell developed the brand with other collateral still in the works. The locations mentioned aren’t accurate or confirmed with council.

Signage WIP


We've been working on some gym signage — here it is getting some finishing touches.



The Brickworks is one of Canberra's most historic sites and is about to undergo significant redevelopment. Our engagement involved custom typography and matte red foiling on a textured black stock.



Once again, life imitates art… Here’s our physical s/crapbook uploaded to our digital s/crapbook. It completes our stationery set nicely and if you’d like to pick one up, drop by Swell HQ for a coffee!

Strategic Plan


We recently completed this beautiful document featuring a die cut cover, rounded corners and translucent feature pages. It has a vintage research paper feel achieved through a muted colour palette, typographic styling and stock choices.

We’re proud to announce that Tim Fulton, a recent addition to the Swell team, has been awarded the Design Institute Australia, Graduate of the Year Award (GOTYA) — Visual Communication Design NSW/ACT Winner. GOTYA is a portfolio-based DIA program that rewards the highest standards of excellence in final year undergraduate design students & recent graduates. Great work, Tim!

With the Scott 24 Hour taking a bit of a holiday, Canberra Off Road Cyclists needed to fill the gap in the mountain biking calendar. Introducing The CORC Six66 – An event that will scratch the itch for those wanting a social, fun, yet competitive mountain bike race. We have created the brand identity that will roll to a range of items in the lead up to the event. It’s going to be one hell of a weekend!

John James Village


The John James Village in Garran provides free, purpose-built, accommodation for the Leukaemia Foundation to support regional blood cancer patients in their time of need while undergoing treatment at the Canberra Hospital. We were engaged to deliver a full placemaking package including a sculptural donor wall and wayfinding signage.
